I am in university full-time; I am currently in the process of doing an honours thesis and applying for grad school. I have generalized anxiety disorder and am on the autism spectrum. With all of this in mind, writing is a hobby of mine which means I sometimes take a leave of absence. During these hiatuses, I will still be lurking. Feel free to message me if you need any clarification!02

For any non-roleplay blogs, please don not reblog any of my threads, edits or posts. I appreciate that you enjoy my partner's and I's work; however, reblogging messes up activity notifications on both sides. BIOGRAPHY
ON A COOL, SPRING EVENING OF JUNE 12 1884, not a thought drifted outwards their home in 6th Arrondissement of Paris, for Angélique Mai Dieu was born to the “civilised” Indochinese couple of Adélaïde and Phillipe Dieu. From that day forward began a tumultuous life for their young child, far from whichever ones they had envisioned for her.Phillipe could be a loving man, a charming one for sure. However, he could be particularly wicked when he wanted to. Her father was a narcissist and could be emotionally abusive not only towards his wife, but also towards his only child. His actions deeply affected his daughter and continued for the rest of her life. Adélaïde did her best to shield her little Mai from her husband. However, even the best mothers could not always protect their children. Upon returning home from a New Years party, tragedy struck: a horrible carriage accident, an accident that left the Dieu child orphaned. Angélique was soon adopted by her mother’s best friend, Raoul Leclair, and took on her new caregiver’s last name.Raoul Leclair quickly filled the position of father figure that had been empty for so long. When they first met, she was a little apprehensive of him and overall quite anxious but he gradually gained her trust with every passing day. As time passed, their bond grew stronger with each kind gesture and moment. They often spent their days together in the Luxembourg Gardens where some of the child’s most cherished memories were created. Very early on her adoptive father realized that he would need help raising a young child so he went on to hire a governess, Marie “Mamita” Laurent. Although she didn’t replace the young girl’s mother, she did provide her with a somewhat maternal figure that she desperately needed in her life. Mamita was half Indochinese herself, one of the few connections the child had to her parents’ homeland and one of the main reasons she was hired. A stern woman, she cared the best she could for the orphan.Ever since her adoption, Angélique hid the fact that she was Indochinese due to the fact that she would face discrimination, harassment, and racism. She was ashamed of her ethnic background for a long time, often lying about being half-french. Less than a handful people know about her true ancestry though many believe her lie as many men had taken up mistresses from her native country whilst on trips. It was only in her early adolescence that she embraced her ethnicity and began to learn more about it with the help of Mamita; however, this did not stop her from lying about her true background. In late 1898 and early 1899, Raoul became the new ambassador to the United States. He, his daughter, and her governess moved to New York shortly after receiving the news. Unlike her guardians, Ange had a harder time adjusting. Her sudden arrival halfway through the school year had caused much a stir among the other girls and her appearance only added fuel to the fire.
12.06.1884 ⁄ Angélique Mai Dieu is born to first-time parents, Phillipe and Adélaïde Dieu.
01-13.01.1889 ⁄ Coming home in the wee hours from a raucous New Years Party, Phillipe and Adélaïde get into carriage accident when encountering black ice. Phillipe is killed on impact, though his wife survives the initial collision. Within the next week, Adélaïde's condition significantly declines despite receiving care from some of Paris' best doctors. Her friend and her daughter's godfather, Raoul Leclair, is the closest thing to family that she has and has remained by her side the entire time. On Adélaïde's deathbed, she makes Raoul vow to her to take care of Angélique and to protect her no matter what. He is unable to decline and promises to take the child in as his own. Within several hours, Angélique Mai Dieu is orphaned with no living relatives in France and promptly becomes a Leclair.
18.07.1899 ⁄ The first official day of the Newsboy Strike is declared. Sympathetic with their cause, Angélique wishes to help to the extent she can.
Angélique is fully fluent in English. Despite speaking French most of the time, her English is impeccable. Instead of having a thick French accent, she has what can be described as a posh British one. The only time her French slips into her English is when she is excited and talking fast, but it is negligible.
Her childhood nickname is Mai based on her middle name. It is not after the month of May, but after the mai flower (Ochna integerrima) which is considered good luck in Vietnamese culture. This flower typically only blooms during Têt, Lunar New Year. However, some mai bloomed the day that she was born, a day that was out of the typical season. This child was considered incredibly lucky. Hence the nickname.
During the strike, she is sent to the Refuge for (1) committing vagrancy and violence whilst protecting the younger newsies (2) thievery as a girl like her could never afford such an outfit without dubious means.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE AMERICANS
pre and post strike
With her father’s new promotion, it obliges him to move them to the United States. Although his occupation often requires trips to the American capital, Angélique and her governess have been sent to New York for her safety and education.
CHANGE COMING
strike
History is happening in Manhattan, and it just so happens that a certain Parisian has befriended some of these history makers. Inaction will not be a solution for her. Instead of idly sitting by, she enlists the help of someone close to her, someone with the proper qualifications to help.
UN MONDE MODERNISÉ
modern
Daughter of Vietnam war refugees living in France, Angélique is taken under a family friend after both of her parents' untimely death in a car accident. Years after the tragedy, her guardian’s promotion to a foreign diplomat obliges the small family to move to America.
PUT GOOD INTO THE WORLD
cobra kai
Upon moving to California for her father’s new job, the only school with available spots in the middle of the school year is West Valley High. The Leclair’s quickly learn why there are so many openings after the viral “school fight”. Wanting to pursue her ballet lessons, Angélique finds herself enrolling at Kumiko’s (teachdance) dance studio as one of her first new students. Quickly taken under Kumiko’s wing, the two become inseparable to the point that they are often mistaken as mother and daughter. At the behest of her newfound mentor, she is not allowed to physically involve herself in the “Karate Wars''. However, Ange is always there to patch a friend up or to cheer them up with cookies.
UPTOWN GIRL
stranger things
Hawkins is her new home when her father is sent there on behalf of France’s government in cooperation with Hawkins Laboratory and the US government for totally not suspicious reasons. Being transplanted to rural Indiana in the middle of school year is not aided by the fact that the Leclair heiress has skipped a few years. Not to mention that she is a visible minority in a town still haunted by the ghosts of the Vietnam War. Perhaps, she knows more than she lets on about Hawkins and its lab. But it’s not like anyone talks to her anyways.
DO YOU REMEMBER
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM
Immortalized in wax, the heiress is bound to ride beside the figure of her beloved adoptive father (historiavn) for the rest of their days. Blessed or cursed to remain the same age forever, Angélique comes to life each night when the guests of the museum leave. Immortality may seem nice though she is confined to the same building with the same occupants, day after day, month after month and year after year...
